What is the difference between a league, a tournament, and an outing?

A league plays on a repeating weekly cadence over a season — the same day, the same course and the same format each week — and keeps season-long standings.

A tournament runs over one to four consecutive days, with one round per day and a single format across the event, and ranks players on the aggregate.

An outing is for a golf trip, a corporate or charity day, a member-guest or a bachelor party. Every round is set up on its own: its own date, tee time, course, tees, 9 or 18 holes, format and field. Two rounds can even fall on the same day.

An outing deliberately keeps no overall standings — each round has its own leaderboard. The rounds aren't comparable, so adding a scramble and a stroke-play eighteen together would produce a number that looks meaningful and isn't.

Outings are always invite-only, and they come out of their own yearly allowance rather than using up one of your league or tournament events.
